My favorite falafel

I shouldn’t blog when I’m hungry.

All I want in the world right now is falafel. Or a lamb gyro. And baklava.

From Tangiers. Right now. It’s a brutal, agonizing craving.

I’ll explain. My friend Helder introduced me to Tangiers International a few months ago– and my search for perfect falafel in Hartford promptly came to a halt.  Both eatery and middle eastern grocery, Tangiers is home to some of the best falafel I’ve ever eaten– light, spicy & not at all greasy (it’s cooked in extra virgin olive oil), along with a full eat-in/takeout menu of goodies.  The service is always friendly and fantastic (and attractive, which doesn’t hurt), and the baklava is OTHERWORDLY. Sweet, buttery, flaky, and heartstoppingly dreamy when accompanied by Turkish coffee.

I could go on but you’ll just have to stop in.

Thank God I’m moving to this neighborhood soon.  Watch out, West End.

Time for Oktoberfest!

Lots going on around Hartford county this month!

On Saturday, September 17th, Locals 8 Restaurant Group (Tisane, The Half Door, and Plan B) will be hosting Oktoberfest at Rosedale Farms & Vineyards in Simsbury. Proceeds will benefit Foodshare. An entire afternoon of beer and food stations–everything a girl like me dreams of.

To convince you completely, here’s a particularly delightful excerpt from the event email: It’s Harvest Time and that means Beer Braised, Brined, Smoked, & Grilled Meats and Farm Fresh Veggies, Beer, Briskets, Pork, Beer, Chicken, Salmon, Sausages, Beer, Fresh Made Donuts, Music, Salads, Krauts, Beer, Cordial Station, Desserts, Mustards, Potato Salads, Did we mention Beer?

Adult tickets are $40 for the event– get them here.

And, on Friday, Sept 23rd, the Mark Twain House will celebrate “Tapping into Twain,” its 4th annual Oktoberfest in Hartford with a selection of locally produced beers, artisanal ales, and local restaurant samplings.

Participating breweries include Blue Point, Bru Rm/Bar, Cavalry Brewing, City Steam Brewery Café, Hartford Better Beer Co., Hook & Ladder, Hooker Brewery, Maltose  Express, Narragansett, Old Burnside Brewing and more! You’ll even get this year’s signature pint glass.

Eat, drink & be merry. And, as always, be safe.
